Play Reading

https://www.pinterest.com/castner2119/a-raisin-in-the-sun/

Before reading, I had no idea what A Raisin in the Sun was going to be about. I’ve never heard of it before and only knew that it was a play. But as I started reading it, I realize that it revolves around a black family from Chicago and talks about their struggles, as the play does take place during the time of discrimination.

One of my favorite characters in the play is probably Travis. Although Travis is just a little boy and may not fully understand what his family is going through, he tries to maintain happy and positive. With his father and grandma fighting over what to do with the money to his mom and Beneatha always bickering, Travis manages to put a smile on his face and those around him.

In this play, there was a part that I read, and I just remember getting angry. And it was when Karl Linder, the guy from Clybourne Park, comes to the Younger family and explains that the family is not welcomed that Clybourne Park. From the play, it is stated that Clybourne Park is an all-white neighborhood and don’t want any black or colored families living there. First of all, how rude. And secondly, if that happened to my family, that man would definitely get a piece of my mind. You just don’t walk into someone else’s home and tell them that they aren’t welcome into the neighborhood. That’s just a no-no.

Comparing their society to today’s society, that are many differences. Of course, some are good and some are bad, but what can we do, we all have to make some sacrifices sometimes. Not everything is perfect yet but little by little, and with one step at a time there will be better things in the making.

Zero Dark Thirty Review

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Dark_Thirty
The film, Zero Dark Thirty, is about the terrorist attack on 9/11 and the hunt for Osama bin Laden who was named as the master mind behind the attack. Aside from the main ideas such as, talking about 9/11 and Osama bin Laden, the film also focuses on giving a message that hard work does pay off at the end. Jessica Chastain, the girl who plays the main character, goes through a tunnel of events where it leads her to dead ends and gets lost. As she continues to strive through and keep pushing forward she's able to successfully obtain information, becoming one step closer to completing her mission.

Zero Dark Thirty, to me, was an okay movie. It's not necessarily a bad movie, but I wouldn't give it a 5 star rating either. I think one of the reasons why is that, it can be kinda hard to follow along with and at times confusing as to what is going on. The movie tends to move on very fast, but I guess it's because they had to try to fit 10 years into a 2 and an half hour film. One minute they are searching for information and then the next they are in a meeting, back and forth. It made me stop to think about the timeline and sequence of where the movie was heading. A good thing about the movie, however, is that it is very educational. Especially for those who don't really know what 9/11 was or why is had such a huge impact on the US, it does a good job on trying to give behind the scenes information.

Personally, I never really knew much about 9/11, since when it happened I was only 3 years old. To me it was just another event from the past, when to others, it was the most terrifying experience ever. But the feeling of having an event be so traumatizing and completely change your life, yet at the same time people having barely any knowledge about what happened, I know. My family's life changed during and after the Vietnam War. We had be relocated from place to place and survive on what ever we had. From such hardships and sad times, there are still people who don't know much about the Vietnam War, and it breaks my heart. But as I was watching this film it made me think a lot about how there are people who are not up to date about what is going on around us. Things that don't necessarily hit home, never get to become the hot topic and eventually lost in space. Just like how I didn't know much about 9/11 and how people lack interest in the Vietnam War.

Martin Luther King Jr and the March to Success

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selma_(film)
The movie Selma, takes us back to the time when colored people were fighting for their rights. And when I use the word “fighting” I meant things like boycotting, marches, sit ins, all acts of non-violence. The film mainly focuses on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, but at the same time it showcases the people who helped Dr. King become the great person that we all know today.

From this movie, I learned that not only was Dr. King able to successful gather the colored community into joining forces, but he also got help from the white community too. After his speech, concerning the first non-successful march to the capital, many white viewers who saw what happened, voiced their opinion by participating in the next march that Dr. King led. To me, that was surprising, for Dr. King to have white supporters. During this time, everything was separated. From bathrooms, restaurants, schools everything. I was impressed that many stepped up to fight for equality.

Ooohhh Stevie

It was a beautiful sunny day, monarch fluttering in the wind, bees bouncing from flower to flower and birds singing a beautiful melody. But then we were stuck indoors, running up countless flights of stairs, we even had an elevator handy but that didn’t persuade us because we were so determined to find where Stevie was lurking. There was a rumor on the streets that at each crime scene there was a letter hidden somewhere that would lead us to where the hostage was being held.

My team mates and I are just junior detectives just starting out at the bottom hoping to make it to the big leagues one day, so we decided to take on the unsolved Stevie Gone Missing Case. To start the investigation off we started on the first of many floors of the great Albertson library because we needed to find our first clue. The first clue was within the dog encyclopedia in the pointer section. As we searched for the book using the call number and flipping through pages, we were lucky enough to find the letter E where we also found out more about what Stevie looked like.

We then encounter a shark hanging around on the same floor who won’t give use the second clue. We end up trading Jayden’s arm to receive the second clue.
The next clue which was a pointer paper led us to the news stand on the 2nd floor. As we continued to search, Jayden's arm violently started bleeding. But there was nothing we could do. He either had to give up on this mission or suck it up and carry on. Being the team player that he is, he could not stop here. We rested for a bit so that Jayden could re-energize and then we were off again. After sometime, we eventually found the clue.

We then followed Stevie’s paw prints to the 3rd floor where the cds are located. We looked around and noticed the clue stuck onto the cd stand. Just as we were going to leave, Jayden saw a Taylor Swift album and wanted to listen. After giving it some thought, we all decided to take a quick break to listen to the album. Something magical must have happened cause afterwards, Jayden's arm suddenly grew back.

We then heard of the kidnapper being spotted and we immediately ran to the scene. On 4th floor we looked for the call number PN2287 C5, where we found a picture of the kidnapper which was a… cat… We then wanted to do our research on feline characters so we went to the zoology section on the 5th floor. There we met our good friend Mr. Seal, where he told us that the SuDocs would led us to our final clue.

We rushed up and down the aisles searching for the last piece to the puzzle on the 6th floor. As time was almost up, there was no other way but to split up. We all went different ways, wondering where the last and final clue could be. "Here!" said Ka. "On the poster!" Rushing over to take a glance at the clue, we were happy to have found the missing piece.

After finding all the clues and unscrambling all the letters left behind it led us to where Stevie was. This brought us to the Archives. We then knocked on the door and asked if anybody was home but nobody answered. So then we gave it the boot and there was Stevie chained to the top of the book shelf. Maloree then climbed on top of the shelf and quickly used her ninja skills to tied Stevie.

In the end it felt great because we worked so hard to find our dear friend Stevie and were awarded for solving the hardest missing person case in the world.

My Thoughts, My Feelings

My Thoughts, My Feelings

Recently, I've read an article that stated some changes and/or issues in today's society. It talked about the influence of technology, power of the internet, greed for attention, and the way of life by publicizing. Here are just some of my thoughts and how I feel after reading the article.

Technology
First off, the improvement of technology has been outstanding. With everything a click of a button away and everything within a matter of seconds, we truly are the generation of gadgets. But is that all positive? As I was reading I starting questioning myself how much time I waste using an electronic device. The answer to that was disappointing. Then I asked myself how much time do I spend actually talking to someone. And the answer to that was even more disappointing. With more and more technology getting thrown in our faces, we forget to do natural activities, such as talking to one another.

Music Around the World

Expressions
Music. Beautiful sounds that go we hear through our ears and feel with the heart. Music can bring people happiness, tears of joy, and excitement. We, as the crazy human beings that we are, have infinite ways of expressing who we are. But with music, many of us are able to connect and relate to one another. Listed above are five of my favorite songs that help me get through my day. I highly recommend you to listen to them and remember to tell me which one you liked the most.

Korean Pop Music (Kpop)
First off, these songs are important to me because they are my to go de-stress songs. They are able to express my feelings when I am happy, sad, or just simply having a bad day. Most of the songs, I heard over the radio, but being the weird person that I am, I like to surf on the internet for songs that are less known and/or that are sung in other languages. I guess you can say that it's a weird habit of mine. I'd like to think that I am an open minded person. With a mixture of different styles of songs ranging from, instrumental, pop, rap, to R&B and heart touching ballads, you name it, I’ll listen to almost anything. And with an open mind, I am willing to try new things that maybe considered to be out of the norm. Hopefully, they reflect that I am a warm welcoming person and a well-rounded individual, who is easy to approach and talk to. When listening to my playlist, you'll be able to learn that I enjoy other cultures and learning about them. Being Hmong and the weird person that I am, I guess, helped me grow an interest for learning what other exciting cultures are out there. On the other hand, however, something that you wouldn’t know about me is that I can speak in different languages. Hmong which is my first  and native language, English as my second, and Korean where I self-taught by listening to Korean music, watching Korean movies and other kinds of media.. Based off my playlist, many people, even you, might think that I am a very outgoing person, but in reality I love and adore the indoors. Staying cozy inside and not having to do much are my kind of days.
