My Thoughts, My Feelings
Recently, I've read an article that stated some changes and/or issues in today's society. It talked about the influence of technology, power of the internet, greed for attention, and the way of life by publicizing. Here are just some of my thoughts and how I feel after reading the article.

First off, the improvement of technology has been outstanding. With everything a click of a button away and everything within a matter of seconds, we truly are the generation of gadgets. But is that all positive? As I was reading I starting questioning myself how much time I waste using an electronic device. The answer to that was disappointing. Then I asked myself how much time do I spend actually talking to someone. And the answer to that was even more disappointing. With more and more technology getting thrown in our faces, we forget to do natural activities, such as talking to one another.

Now what about the internet and social media. Sites such as youtube, facebook, and twitter have alternated our ways of interacting, entertainment, and gathering information. Both positive and negative. With so many new apps and updates, people aren't being proactive with their time and are just waiting for the next 'big' thing. So, instead of taking the extra time and call your parents, you send them a smiley emoji, a heart, and a thumbs up, then call it good.

And last, we have people posing for the camera. Everyday people are writing statuses on how they
feel, explaining how their day was, and uploading 'selfies' all over the internet. In other words, anything for attention. People are so focused in their own little of having to capture everything on camera that they forget that even the littlest things matters. There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, but what are those words really worth when you can't enjoy the moment.

You brought up some very good points throughout you response and your questions that you asked yourself made me think the same thing. overall I thought this was a great response.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your notion that pictures lose their worth when the value of the subject wanes in comparison to the value of the picture itself. It always baffles me when people go on vacation or travel to wondrous places and their main focus is merely cataloguing the aesthetics to post to social media later, rather than truly enjoying what is in front of them. A lot of people today feel that having gotten a photo of something memorable is more important than the memory itself.
ReplyDeleteIt is ok to take pictures for posterity, but not when it interferes with your ability to appreciate the world around you.
